After a long time of being taken aback from the limelight, Dancepinoy.com once again fires up with yet another much awaited follow up event: Step Off 2011! This is a thematic dance competition wherein groups will have to integrate in their dance routine steps of the featured genre. The first Step Off dance competition was held last 2009 at the Centerstage in SM Mall of Asia in partnership with FAME Philippines. After three years, Dancepinoy.com stages this event now with the k-pop theme!
K-pop has emerged in international heights, gaining recognition throughout the world. Its rapid spread has been coined by Chinese journalists as Hallyu. Here in the Philippines, k-pop has made its way through Koreanovelas. Even though the genre is not locally available to its dedicated audience, k-pop aficionados get access to these through cable TV or the internet. In our event, k-pop fans will not only get access to this stuff. They will also gain knowledge and deeper understanding on their idols’ roots as guest speakers from the South Korean Embassy in the Philippines will conduct a talk on Korean culture.
Step off 2011: The K-pop Challenge will be held on May 28, 2011 at the Makati CAP Auditorium. It is open to all k-pop cover dance groups. Dancers will have to dance and dress up like the original k-pop group they chose to represent. The music to be danced to shall be strictly k-pop songs only. Groups will be judged according to their routine as well as their cosplay get-up. Apart from that, booths with different k-pop merchandise of rare finds will be put up around the venue.
