New Year's Eve in the Slums

Its the day before new year. We went to Tacloban to search for perfect case studies.

We returned to "shipwreck city" in Tacloban to explore it further. We spotted a few international aid volunteers also surveying the area, they are here to help asses the damage and what needs to be done to help in the restoration.

To save time, we decided to split into two teams to widen our scope in exploring possible leads in the vicinity, Victor explores the areas with the stranded ships while I went on to explore the makeshift houses near the port area.

A few meters away, I saw a child carrying several pieces of scrap metal,  damaged roof pieces, that were probably ripped apart by the storm's wrath.

I decided to pursue this subject further and followed him around. Victor went back to Palo to cover the other probable case studies there, whilst I spent the new year's eve at this boy's family in their house.

A very modest and simple celebration even tough there were no lights or electricity. The people here welcomed the New Year with fireworks, noise making and great optimism in spite of the tragedy that has befallen them.

I think this is one of my most memorable new year's eve.
